Year round, there is an abundance of outdoor recreational activities for you to enjoy. No trip to Newcastle would be complete without at trip to the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. Just 10 miles off the mainland is Monhegan Island. You can catch a ferry to the island on the Hardy Boat, or enjoy one of their other cruises of the Maine coastline.  If you like to be more active, consider sea kayaking on Muscongus Bay and the Damariscotta River with Midcoast Kayak. The quiet roads of Maine beckon you to explore them at a slower pace, so, bring your bicycle. There is a supply of maps at the inn to get you on your way.

River Road, right outside the front door, will take you to Boothbay Harbor and the spectacular, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. The 248 waterfront acres feature gardens, water views, miles of walking trails and a pristine forest.

If antiquing is to your liking, then you have come to the right place! There are individual shops, like Damarine Antiques, as well as group shops such as the Nobleboro Antique Exchange, and Avalon Antiques Market.  Additionally, there are two great auction houses just minutes away, Foster Auctions and Thomaston Place Auction Galleries.

Heading north on Rte. 1, in the town of Warren, your will find Lie-Nielsen Toolworks, an internationally recognized maker of heirloom quality hand tools for woodworkers worldwide. Their showroom offers an opportunity to try the tools, view demonstrations and tour the shop!

Just down the road, in Bath, the Maine Maritime Museum provides an education in all areas of Maine's seafaring history from ship building to lobstering. Go north and you will discover the Owlshead Transportation Museum which celebrates the history of transportation.  In Rockland, is the very fine Farnsworth Art Museum which showcases the work of American artists.
